President invites Pope to visit Sri Lanka

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has today written to His Holiness the Pope extending an invitation to visit Sri Lanka, the President’s Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake was quoted as saying by the Government Information Department.
Pope Francis had recently said that he is weighing an invitation from Sri Lanka to visit the country.
The Argentinian-born pontiff had made the comments on his papal aircraft flying back to the Vatican from Brazil after his first trip abroad since his election in March.
