Hit and run suspect arrested; soldier succumbs to injuries

An army soldier who was struck by a vehicle in the Madurankuliya area on the Puttalam-Chilaw road succumbed to his injuries while the driver of the vehicle was later arrested after fleeing the scene of the accident.
The soldier had been crossing the road when he was struck down by the vehicle while police stated that the soldier later died of his injuries.
The victim was a 42-year-old soldier from the Panagoda army camp.
The driver of the vehicle had driven off but had later been arrested by the Mundalama police traffic unit.
The suspect will be presented to the Puttalam Magistrate court today (August 7).
