The Wildlife Department has decided to conduct special raids in and around wildlife parks during the upcoming drought period due to the possibility of increased hunting activity.
Wildlife Director General H.D. Rathnayake stated that animals who wander in search of water sources are particularly vulnerable to hunters.
Several special units will be deployed around the wildlife parks in order to arrest anyone hunting in those areas.
The Yala National park will be closed for a period of a month in September while a special programme will be implemented to ensure the park’s safety.
