Another batch of over 100 asylum seekers illegally bound for Australia have been brought back to the Galle Harbour after they were arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy.
The boat was intercepted around 220 nautical miles off Galle on Saturday (10) by navy patrol vessels.
It was initial stated that 88 persons were onboard, however it has now been released that a total of 111 passengers were onboard the vessel, navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.
The boat ‘Rwan Putha’ had set sail on August 07 from Beruwala for the illegal voyage to Australia.
The arrested persons have been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) by Galle Harbour Police for further investigations.
