The Udugama Magistrate’s Court has ordered that the investigation into the alleged suicide by a suspect inside a cell at the Baddegama Police Station be transferred to a different Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
The Elpitiya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Assistant Superintendent of Police were yesterday summoned to court by the Acting Magistrate who ordered them to submit a report on the death within two weeks.
The deceased person’s mother testifying before the court had stated that her son had no reason to commit suicide and was unable to even tie a rope as he had only 3 fingers in his right hand.
The attorney representing the plaintiff informed court that the death was suspicious.
