UPFA member of the Galgamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha, B.A. Tillakaratne was killed in a vehicular accident last evening (August 20) on the Anuradhapura-Padeniya road in the Thalagalla area.
The incident occurred around 2 pm yesterday when the PS member was driving his van and was unable to control it. The van veered off the road and crashed into a tree while Tillakaratne was critically injured in the accident.
He was rushed to the Mahawa hospital and was later transferred to the Kurunegala hospital for further treatment when he succumbed to his injuries.
His mother and another person who were traveling in the van at the time were also severely injured in the incident and are currently receiving treatment in the Kurunegala hospital.
The Mahawa police are conducting further inquiries.
