UPDATE: Four soldiers suspended from service over allegations of rape

The Military Spokesman stated that four Army soldiers accused of raping a woman in Horowapothana were suspended from the service by the Army, the Government Information Department reported.
The husband and three sons of the victim of this incident are also serving in the army.
The four suspects who are soldiers with minor-disabilities had allegedly arrived at the home of the 49-year-old victim on motorbikes on the night of August 8.
The four suspects had then allegedly tied up a 17 year old boy, who was a relation of the victim, and had locked him in a room after which they had raped the female victim.
The suspects also stole Rs.35,000, some jewellery, two phones and a torch from the home before fleeing the scene.
Police were able to arrest them in Anuradhapura after they had used the stolen phones.
One of the suspects is an Army Lance Corporal while all of them are attached to the Nochchiyagama security post in Anuradhapura.
Police also stated that they are investigating the involvement of this group in several robberies in Anuradhapura.
