UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay’s visit to Sri Lanka will not change the report she was planning to submit anyway regarding Human Rights in Sri Lanka, Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa stated today (August 29).
He said that the government extended the invitation for Pillay to come to Sri Lanka with good intentions aimed at ensuring a balanced report however he accused Pillay of coming to Sri Lanka to show the world her ill intentions.
If her report to the UN would hold something discrediting this country, I don’t think this visit would change that even minutely, he added.
The Minister stated that all this visit would achieve is that she would be able to add the fact that she travelled to Sri Lanka and spoke with all the stakeholders in order to give her pre-conceived report some credibility.
He added that the mistake of inviting her to Sri Lanka would only be revealed after the report comes out.
