
A suspect attempting to smuggle three gold biscuits, worth around Rs 3.1 million, concealed in his rectum has been arrested by airport customs officers when he attempted to board a flight to Mumbai last night.
The gold biscuits, weighing 621 grams, were confiscated while the suspects was find Rs 100,000 and released, a customs spokesman said.
Meanwhile in a separate incident Customs officers at the Katunayake Airport arrested four suspects with a large quantity of mobile phones and accessories, brought into the country without approval from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.
The suspects had arrived from Dubai yesterday (29) while 783 mobile phones, 1100 chargers, 560 batteries, 700 phone accessories and housings were found in their luggage.
The equipment, valued at over Rs 3 million, was confiscated by customs while the suspects, residents of Colombo, have been released.
