The CID has complete its investigation on former DIG Vaas Gunawardena in which he stands accused of extorting Rs.3 million from a murder suspect while court also denied a request for bail.
The CID told court today that it had completed its investigation on the former DIG. He has been accused of extorting Rs.3 million from Sarath Edirisignhe who is the chief suspect in the murder case of former Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha member Hasitha Madawala.
The court also accepted a written complaint handed in by the former DIG.
As the investigation on the former DIG had ended, the defence requested the court to grant bail which the court then denied. The case will be taken up again on September 16 while the suspect was ordered to be remanded until then.
