
Customs officers today seized a haul of foreign cigarettes, believed to be worth around Rs 6 million, illegally imported to the country as ceramic tiles.
The container, which had contained the cigarette haul, was registered under the names of several Sri Lankans migrant workers and was opened on a suspicion by the Central Disposal Unit in Orugodawatta this morning.
The exact value of the cigarettes has not been estimated yet, however they are believed to be worth around Rs 6 million, Customs Superintendent Parakrama Basnayake said.
He stated that the cigarettes were brought to the country from Dubai and that they were packed inside boxes for ceramic tiles.
