
The Meteorological Department forecasts showers over most parts of the country until September 9. Heavy rain fall(over 100mm) likely at some places, the Disaster Management Centre said.
Showers will occur at times in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and Jaffna peninsula.
Showers or thundershowers will develop elsewhere during the afternoon and night while heavy falls (more than 100mm) are also likely at some places, the Department of Meteorology said.
“There may be temporary localized strong winds during showers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities,” it said.
On the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28th of August and 07th of September in this year. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun will overhead today (06th), are Mahalanduruwa, Neluwa, Buthkanda, Katharagama and Yala about 12:09 noon.
