UNP PS member assaulted by ‘UPFA’ supporters

UNP Yatinuwara Pradeshiya Sabha member Uddika Pathirana has been hospitalized after being assaulted by a group of persons in Kirimetiya, Pottapitiya.
The PS member was reportedly on his way to support the election campaign of Nihal Gunasekara, who is contesting for the Central Provincial Council under the UNP, when he was stopped and assaulted last night.
Around 40 individuals had arrived in several vehicles to carry out the brutal attack while they had also toppled and damaged Uddika Pathirana’s vehicle, Nihal Gunasekara said.
He alleged that the assailants were supporters of a UPFA candidate who is also contesting for the Central Provincial Council.
The assaulted Pradehsiya Sabha member has been admitted to the Kadugannawa Hospital.
