The people of the North have developed a suspicious mentality towards the government due to certain groups claiming that the Army is involved in spreading election propaganda, Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma stated.
Speaking at a press conference held today (September 17), the Minister drew references from reports issued by CaFFE adding that the media have to be careful while reporting these issues as it may send the wrong image to the international community.
Minister Alahapperuma said that according to CaFFE, the TNA which has pointed its finger at the government for utilizing state property for election promotions has also used state property for this purpose.
He also stated that he was confident that the people of the North will recognize the government’s development work in the area and will respond kindly to the government in the upcoming election.
