An earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale has struck southwest Pakistan, with tremors felt across the region and as far as New Delhi.
The United States Geological Survey said that a 7.8 magnitude quake struck 145 miles southeast of Dalbandin, in Pakistan’s western province of Balochistan.
The temblor, which had its epicentre 69 km from Awaran in Balochistan province, was felt in Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana and other towns and cities of Sindh province.
The earthquake reportedly jolted the buildings in the national capital, however, there were no reports of casualty.
Though the quake struck at a mere depth of 22.9km and 145 miles off Dalbandin in Balochistan, but tremors were felt as far as New Delhi and NCR region in neighbouring India where people were reportedly seen running out on streets as the quake shook buildings.
An orange alert was issued in the wake of the earthquake that lasted for two minutes, Pakistani media reports said.
No damages have been reported yet but the quake can potentially affect 337,980 people who lie within 100 km of the epicentre, Global Disaster Alert and coordination System (GDACS) said. - Agencies
