The Chennai City Police on Wednesday arrested a Sri Lankan Tamil on the charge of applying for an Indian passport with a fake residence proof.
Intelligence officials gave a negative report to the passport office which stated that the Sri Lankan Tamil, B Prakash, 27, was not staying at the address he had mentioned in his application.
Prakash came to Chennai during the civil war in Sri Lanka and was staying at a refugee camp located in Kottapattu near Tiruchi. He applied for the Indian passport since he planned to leave for Canada. In his application form, he mentioned that he had been living at a house in Gulam Abbas Ali Khan Street at Thousand Lights.
The passport officials lodged a formal complaint with the Thousand Lights police who arrested him. (TNN)
