Thunder showers, strong wind expected in deep sea areas

The Met Department today forecasted that showers or thundershowers will occur in the deep sea areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa.
Showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night, it said.
Winds will be Southwesterly and speed will be 30-40 km/hr and can strengthen up to 60kmph at times during thundershowers.
The deep sea areas (beyond 300km) off the coast extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa may be very rough at times as the winds can be strengthen up to 80kmph at times.
Other sea areas also may be temporary rough during thundershowers, according to the weather forecast issued this morning.
The Department of Meteorology says that the atmospheric disturbances in the vicinity of Sri Lanka still persist and therefore thundershowers will be fairly widespread during the afternoon or night.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, it said while requesting the public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
