
The Ministry of Health has decided to inspect establishments selling, preparing food items and beverages in every city in the island. The ministry also says that it will inspect establishments selling and bottling drinking water in the country.
The inspection will coincide with the Food Safety Week declared by the ministry from October 21 to 27 in view of World Food Day on October 16.
The Health Ministry had decided to inspect the aforementioned places in the wake of recent reports of mass food poisoning incidents and the unsuitable conditions of establishments preparing and selling food items.
Health Minister Mathripala Sirisena has instructed relevant authorities to take action according to the Food Act against establishments preparing and selling food items unsuitable for human consumption.
