
Puttalam Police have launched investigations to track down and arrest a suspect accused of shooting and injuring a businessman and also stealing Rs 500,000 from the victim.
The shooting had occurred at around 8.20pm last night near the Mariamman Temple on the Muttalam-Mannar road, Ada Derana reporter said.
Iyyappa Parameshwaran, 61, the owner of a wholesale store in the Puttalam Town, was admitted to the Puttalam Base hospital following the shooting and was later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.
He has been shot in the face twice, police said.
Parameshwaran was returning home in a motorcycle with the cash after closing shop for the day when the suspect had followed him in another motorcycle and carried out the shooting. The gunman had then stolen the cash before escaping.
Police are yet to identify the type of firearm used in the shooting while the businessman has failed to identify the assailant.
Puttalam Police are conducting further investigations.
