Man held with Buddha statues recovered from ‘treasure’

A person has been arrested in Pallebage, Deraniyagala with several items of archeological value, obtained by allegedly unearthing buried treasure.
The susupect was arrested in a special operation following information received by the Deraniyagala Police emergency response unit.
Four Buddha statues, believed to be of immense archeological value, and a Buddha statue seat found in the possession of the suspect have been taken into police custody.
The suspect was remanded until October 28 after being produced at the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court, police said.
