
Fourteen individuals engaged in illegal excavations in search of buried treasure at the Aranthalawa forest reserve in Maha Oya have been arrested by STF personnel today.
The suspects were arrested by personnel from the Police Special Task Force (STF) Maha Oya 18 camp, acting on information received.
They were allegedly excavating in a stupa of archeological significance located in an area of the Aranthalawa forest reserve.
Various equipment used to carry out the digging and other religious items found in the possession of the suspects were also seized by the STF.
