Youth commits suicide after stabbing teen girlfriend

An 18-year-old youth allegedly stabbed and injured his 17-year-old girlfriend before taking his own life in the Rakwana area in Ratnapura, police said.
The incident had occurred inside the residence of the teenage girl on the Deniyaya Road in Rakwana last evening.
The youth had arrived at his girlfriend’s house while an argument between them had resulted in the attack. He had stabbed her using a sharp object before committing suicide.
The girl who is in critical condition is currently being treated at the Kahawatta Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as an 18-year-old resident of Deraniyagala.
