
Even as political pressure grows against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s participation in CHOGM summit in Sri Lanka, a lone voice from Puducherry is in favour of India’s participation. Rajya Sabha MP and senior Congress leader P Kannan wants India to attend the summit as it will be beneficial for Sri Lankan Tamils as well as Indian fishermen.
The Congress leader said, here on Thursday that by taking part in the CHOGM meet, the PM can raise the issuReferring to the invitation to Indian PM by C V Wigneswaran, Kannan said India can mount pressure on Sri Lanka through the international community. When the elected representative of the Tamils wanted the Indian PM to take part, it should be understood that participation of India would be in their favour, said Kannan.es of Sri Lankan Tamils, equal rights to the ethnic Tamils and atrocities against them.
He said with the issue of fishermen from TN and Karaikal lurking between the two nations, there should be positive vibes to resolve such issues and secure the fishermen. (ENS)
