A UNP North Western Provincial Council member, Priyantha Ashoka was admitted to the Marawila hospital after allegedly suffering a gunshot wound in the Hattaniya area of Marawila last night (November 10).
He told police that he was shot last evening at around 7pm in the Hattaniya area.
The Provincial Councillor told the Marawila police that while he was near the Hattaniya Lake, four men on two bikes had arrived there while one of the men had shot at him. He also stated that two of the persons had recognized him.
The Marawila police told Ada Derana that the victim had suffered a minor injury to his arm and had no other injuries. However, the driver of his vehicle had not sustained any injuries while his vehicle was not damaged in the attack either.
Police stated that investigations are under way to determine whether the shooting actually took place.
