
The 100% surcharge on customs duty on imported gold has been removed with effect from today, Sri Lanka customs said today.
In a tariff notice Sri Lanka customs further stated that by virtue of powers vested in him under Section 10A of the Customs Ordinance(Chapter 235) as amended by Act. No. 83 of 1988, read with Article 44(2) of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered the surcharge removal effective from November 22.
The 100% surcharge was imposed on June 21 stating that it was for a period of six months.
