The proposed budget for the year 2014 only serves the interests of casino owners and not those of the public, UNP MP Harsha de Silva stated.
He claimed that the government budget ensured that the casino owning class will receive all the necessary facilities.
Speaking at a press conference held in Colombo today (November 22) the UNP MP said that the government has only proved that the casino trade is more important to them than the people of the country.
The government shamelessly talks about pensions for farmers in 2014 when they do not give a pension to the farmers, he said while adding that Rs.25 will go to the Rajapaksa government every time a person puts a Rs.100 reload.
He pointed out that no other country taxes food like Sri Lanka does while he also highlighted that the budget did not speak of an allocation for dairy farmers despite it stating that 20,000 dairy cows will be imported at Rs.800,000 each.
MP De Silva said that the government had continuously cut down on relief while selling land to foreign enterprises in Colombo.
