
A woman in Sandunpura, Mattegoda was stabbed and murdered with a sharp object by her husband, who had then proceeded to commit suicide by drinking poison this morning, police said.
The woman was returning home today, after dropping off their daughter at Daham School, when she was allegedly murdered by her husband, who is a three-wheeler driver.
The deceased have been identified as Anula Herath and her husband Shelton Dayapala, both were in their forties.
Police suspect a land dispute and other family disputes to be the cause for the murder suicide.
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the couple does not have any children of their own and that the 11-year-old girl in their care was adopted by them.
Kahathuduwa Police are conducting further investigations.
