The Department of Meteorology says that showers or thundershowers will be fairly widespread during the afternoon and night and that fairly heavy rain falls (about 100mm) are also likely at some places.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Uva and Eastern provinces during the morning too while there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The Met Department urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
Meanwhile, according to the weather forecast for sea areas, there will be showers at several places in the sea areas off the Northern and Eastern coasts.
Showers or thundershowers will develop at several places elsewhere in the sea areas around the island particularly during the afternoon or night.
Winds will be North-easterly or variable direction and speed will be 20-30kmph, the Met Department said.
Sea areas around the island will not be rough, but it may be rough with temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
