
Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Vaiko today appealed to the Indian government to recommend clemency to Rajiv Gandhi assassination case death convicts Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan.
In a release, Mr Vaiko said following ‘disclosures’ by Former CBI SP V Thiyagarajan that he did not record verbatim the statement of Perarivalan in the assassination case, the Union Home Ministry must disclose the truth to the President and ensure clemency for the trio.
On May 21, 1991, Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.
The attack was blamed on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a separatist organization from Sri Lanka. - UNI
