The Australian government has extended the proscription on the LTTE for another 3 years. This has been announced by the Australian Foreign Minister Mrs. Julie Bishop.
She has said that this step has been taken for prevention of raising funds for terrorist activities, and in compliance with the U.N. Security Council convention in this connection. In addition to the LTTE, Australia has also proscribed Al Sahab and I.R.A terrorist organizations as well.
Australia has also emphasized that there will be no room for any fund raising by the LTTE in that country. Australia has decided to maintain the LTTE as a proscribed organization as the federal government has updated its listing of terror groups and their financiers. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has said that the threat of terrorism to Australia is real and enduring. She has added that the Australian government remains determined to combat and prevent terrorism in all its forms.
