Police and health authorities today raided a location in Nawala where the expiry dates on packaging of pharmaceutical drugs were being changed, police spokesman said.
The Panadura- Walana Central Anti-Vice Squad, acting on information received, with the assistance of officials from the Health ministry’s Medical Technology Supplies Unit carried out a search at a private company in Kirimandala Mawatha, Nawala which imports medicinal drugs to Sri Lanka.
During the search, officers found two employees pasting labels changing the date of expiry on the packaging and also discovered 4,814 boxes of Hydrosone ointment with such changes made to the expiry date.
They also found nearly 1,000 empty boxes with the expiration dates changed.
Police said investigations are ongoing while legal action is to be taken against three directors of the company and two employees.
