Five Sri Lankans including a woman and two children have been arrested in Mexico for illegally staying in the country without proper documentation.
Officials of Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) secured the three adults and two children, citizens Sri Lanka, while they were staying at a hotel, located in Chetumal, Mexican media reported today.
They have been staying at the hotel for the past four days and were arrested in an operation by officials of the Federal Police and the Municipal Preventive Police (PMP) who assisted INM personnel during the inspection.
Based on circumstantial Act (Vista Migration Verification), issued by the INM, the personnel requested the hotel manager to give them permission to enter the property and carry out the corresponding investigations.
They moved to room number 15, where three adults identified with the names of Chandrika Niroshan, 34, Doorandinga Niroshan, 31, and Silvapatham, 27, were discovered with two children , SN, 10 years old, and LN, five.
When questioned about their immigration documentation, the adults had reportedly stated that they did not have any.
The undocumented workers were later taken to the offices of the institute, located on the extension of Avenida Alvaro Obregon, where their legal status will be determined.
