The National System Operator (NSO) says that power restoration following the nationwide outage is progressing area by area since noon and that it hopes to restore the national grid by around 6.30 p.m. this evening (17).
Issuing an update on the islandwide blackout, the NSO also refuted the news reports circulating regarding breakdowns in many power plants due to the total system failure.
It said that all hydropower plants that were available before the system event are currently operational and are being used to restore the national grid.
The Norochcholai Coal Power Plant has been shut down as per standard procedure, the operator said, adding that there are no reports of breakdowns of any generating plant.
“The system is being successfully restored area by area since noon. NSO hopes to restore the national grid by around 6:30 pm,” it said.
