Amid the prevailing rainy weather and the increased risk of dengue mosquito breeding, the National Dengue Control Unit has urged the public to take immediate measures to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites.
The Acting Director of the unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, warned that failure to carry out dengue prevention and control activities effectively could lead to a resurgence of dengue outbreaks in the near future. He also noted that dengue cases have historically tended to increase during rainy seasons.
He emphasized that dengue mosquito larval surveys are currently being conducted across all districts and that public support is essential to maintaining the current level of dengue control.
Dr. Kannangara further noted that public cooperation during the Southwest Monsoon season had played a crucial role in controlling the high-risk and epidemic conditions that emerged during that period.
He added that, to prevent a recurrence of such conditions, everyone must work together and take immediate action to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
In particular, the public should inspect their homes and surrounding premises for places where water can accumulate and take appropriate measures to clean them or prevent water from stagnating.
