Iran has warned that undersea internet cables passing through the Strait of Hormuz could become targets in a possible military confrontation, Fars news agency reported, citing a representative of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The representative said Tehran did not rule out renewed military conflict and would respond more forcefully than before.
“We do not rule out the possibility of war. This time, our response will be harsher. The United States will face serious problems, and the world will face a severe energy crisis,” he said.
He added that Iran could use different weapons systems and identify new targets in a future war.
“Seven major cables pass through the Strait of Hormuz, on which global internet and commercial data transmission depend. We remind the other side of this,” the representative said.
The remarks came amid rising military tensions in the region.
