
The Fisheries Ministry has advised all Sri Lankan fishermen to refrain from fishing close to the Indian maritime boundary after it was reported that close to 100 Lankan fishermen are in custody in India for fishing in their waters.
The Ministry claimed that diplomatic steps are being taken to secure the release of these Lankan fishermen.
Meanwhile, talks are being held with the Maldives government on allowing Lankan fishermen to fish near the Maldives maritime boundary, the Ministry added.
Therefore it advised all Lankan fishermen not to fish close to Indian waters.
