Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some locations across Sri Lanka today (23), as the influence of a low-pressure system near the island continues despite the system moving westward and away from the country.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern and North-Western provinces and in the Anuradhapura and Galle districts, the Department of Meteorology stated.
Showers or thundershowers are expected in other parts of the island after 1.00 p.m., with some areas likely to experience fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm.
The general public has been urged to take adequate precautions against temporary, localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Misty conditions may also occur at some locations in the Central and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning, the Met. Department added.
