Police narcotic bureau detected 10kgs of heroin at Hikkaduwa and has arrested 3 suspects. This is the largest quantity of heroin ever found from the Southern Province.
Police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana stated that the heroin haul was discovered according to information uncovered after interrogating a Liberian national, who was recently arrested at the Katunayake airport for heroin possession.
The suspects are being further investigated by the Police narcotic bureau under detention orders after they were produced at the Negombo Court.
A recent spike in the smuggling of illegal drugs such as heroin into the country, has resulted in the detection of large quantities of these drugs including the recent discovery of around 291 kilograms of heroin by customs officers.
