Two spill gates of the Kala Wewa Reservoir have been opened as water levels continue to rise due to heavy rainfall.
Accordingly, approximately 1,422 cubic feet of water per second is being released into the Kala Oya through the two spill gates.
The Irrigation Engineer in charge of Kala Wewa stated that nearly 6,000 cubic feet of water per second is flowing into the reservoir through the Dambulu Oya due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas of Kala Wewa.
Accordingly, the water capacity of Kala Wewa has increased to 86,280 acre-feet.
