Singer Madhumadhawa Aravinda has sent his resignation as Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) member to the Mayor AJM Muzammil today.
A member of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), Aravinda was elected to the CMC after contesting the election under the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
Speaking to Ada Derana, the popular singer stated that he will contest for the Western Provincial Council from the Gampaha District next year.
Aravinda also stated that he did not enter politics to open doors for other leaders or polish their shoes and that he wanted to serve the public.
However, rejecting rumors claiming that he is to contested polls from Sarath Fonseka’s Democratic Party, he said he will contest only from the JHU.
