Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem today stated that special courts will be established in the country very soon to hear cases pertaining to incidents of child molestations and child abuse.
He stated that they will comprise Magistrate’s Courts and High Courts and that this will help to expedite trials on child abuse and molestation cases.
The Minister made these comments in response to a question in Parliament, during the debate on the balance sheets of 35 ministries, put forward by Colombo District MP Rosy Senanayake.
The UNP parliamentarian had pointed out of the 2,420 cases of child abuse and molestation cases taken up in court in the past 4 years, only suspects in 517 cases have been sentenced.
