
Four persons were sentenced to death by the Monaragala High Court today (December 20) for the grenade attack on a group of policemen in Weheragoda in 2002 which left one policeman dead and three other officers injured.
The four were convicted of launching a grenade attack on the group of policemen from the Badalkumbura division on the Buttala road in the Weheragoda area on June 14, 2002. The incident resulted in the death of policeman S. Jayasinghe while it injured three others.
The four convicted of murder, causing injury and attempted murder and were sentenced to death.
The convicted persons included, Alankara Devage Prasanna Dissanayake, Alankara Devage Roshan Dissanayake, Konara Mudiyanselage Hemantha Dhammika Kumara alias Ravi and Ranasinghe Arachchige Chaminda Pushpakumara alias Patta.
