Three new chairmen have been named for the local government bodies where the 2014 budgets were defeated.
The names of these new chairmen will be sent to the Elections Department within the day, General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Minister Susil Premajayantha said.
He stated that new chairmen will be appointed for the other local councils where the budgets were defeated on a future date.
The party headquarters has also decided to write to UPFA members who voted against their respective budgets asking them to show cause.
Meanwhile the 2014 budget of the UPFA-controlled Bope-Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha was passed with a majority of 3 votes. Six members voted in favour of the budget while 3 voted against it in the vote on the second reading held today (23).
