Over 1,300 motorists arrested for drunken driving

The Police Department today said that a total of 1,305 persons have been arrested across the country for driving under the influence of alcohol within the past 5 days and that more than half of them are motorcyclists.
Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana stated that 245 drunken drivers were arrested within the past 24 hours alone.
Police launched a special operation at 6.00pm on December 24 covering the entire country to arrest motorists driving under the influence of alcohol.
Therefore as of 6.00am today (29) a total of 1,305 drunk drivers have been arrested by police.
Police said that out of the DUI arrests, 707 are motorcycle drivers while 438 are three-wheeler drivers.
