The center of depression is near Mullaitivu but associated cloud mass is over sea area off North coast hence showery weather over Northern province will be reduced but windy conditions will continue today, the Meteorological Department said.
Under the influence of the system very strong winds, about 80 kmph and heavy falls (about 100mm) are expected over along and off Northern coast and over Gulf of Mannar.
There will be intermittent showers in the Northern province and over sea area off the coast extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai. Showers can be extended to North-central, North-western and Eastern provinces too. The seas off the coast extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai will be very rough and dangerous. The public living close to the said coastal areas also should be more vigilant as the sea waves can be high. Fairly strong winds are expected to continue over other areas of the island too.
Thundershowers will occur at several places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the afternoon and night, Met Department added.
