
Officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) today seized around 100,000 kilograms of sugar unsuitable for human consumption stored at a warehouse near Panyananda Mawatha in Modara.
The stock of sugar, discovered during a raid, is valued at around Rs 11 million, the Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade said.
The expired sugar was to be released to the market after being sealed in new packaging with the manufacturing dates changed.
The Trade Ministry said that the proprietor of the business has been arrested and that legal action will be taken against him.
