If someone is calling the Police the most corrupt institution in the country they must come forward with credible proof to back their claims, Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana stated.
Appearing on Ada Derana’s Wada Pitiya programme, the Police spokesman categorically rejected the label which the police service had been given.
Only nine policemen were arrested by the Bribery Commission between January 1 and December 31 in 2013 while only 20-something policemen were arrested for bribery in the last five years, the SSP stated while questioning how anyone could call the police service the most corrupt institution in the country based on those statistics.
He also said that the Bribery Commission had never called the police the most corrupt institution in the country and challenged whoever believes this to be true to come forward with credible proof.
SSP Rohana also stated that no police promotions or appointments were handed out on political influence but only earned by merit. He claimed that no politician or Minister had any power in appointing OICs in their respective areas.
