SC bars appointments or removals of local govt. body Chairmen till March 31

Supreme Court orders not to appoint or remove Chairmen of local government bodies in which budgets were defeated until March 31, 2014.
Chairmen serving in Pradeshiya Sabhas in which the budgets were defeated will be able to hold their posts until such time.
The decision was taken when the court took up a fundamental rights petition put forward by a group of Pradeshiya Sabha Chairmen.
However, the new Chairmen of the Matara, Bulathsinghala and Kasbewa Pradeshiya Sabhas who have already been appointed will be able to carry on in their duties.
