
The Department of Prisons said that between 700-800 prisoners would be pardoned to mark Sri Lanka’s 66th Independence Day, which will be celebrated on Tuesday (Feb. 04).
The Commissioner General of Prisons, G.B. Kulatunga said the prisoners who were convicted of minor offences and jailed for not being able to pay fines would be released on a Presidential pardon.
He stated that the Prisons Headquarters is currently in the process of receiving the list of prisoner names to be released tomorrow.
