UNP MP Gayantha Karunathilaka and former MP and current Galle District Chairman of the UNP Vajira Abeygunawardena have had a major disagreement over the Southern Provincial Council nominations, political sources stated.
The UNP Leadership Council and the nomination committee have agreed to grant a nomination for the Southern Provincial Council to a businessman, who is a friend of MP Karunathilaka, while Vajira Abeygunawardena has expressed his strong objection to the decision.
The senior members of the party have in turn expressed their displeasure in Abeygunawardena working against the decision of the leadership council and the nomination committee.
Meanwhile, sources claimed that the party senior members were meeting with the Opposition Leader to find a solution to the disagreement within the party.
